Phoenix, Ariz. –After dropping 25 West Coast mixtapes in 2008 and introducing plenty of up-and-coming talent to the industry, Cali Untouchable’s own mix-master September 7th is back at it again. This time around he linked up with the The Zone Entertainment and tapped into the unbroken boundaries of Phoenix, Ariz.’s hip-hop scene (aka The Zone) on his second mixtape release of this year, Welcome to the Zone Vol. 2: AZ’s All-Stars - a project consisting of Arizona’s most gifted and notable MCs.
While Arizona has already introduced major acts such as Hot Rod, Juice, and Willy Northpole, Welcome to the Zone Vol. 2: AZ’s All-Stars, showcases the potential of all of these MCs and several of other artists residing in the slept-on region. Welcome to the Zone Vol. 2 also does a superb job on displaying their state’s capability of producing authentic and competitive music. As fans of the culture continue to gasp for a breath of fresh air in today’s stale hip-hop industry and seek that “next” big movement, September 7th puts an end to their search and proves that the Southwest is next on the map with this release.
A member of DJ Warrior’s Cali Untouchable DJs camp, September 7th has become a key player in today’s West Coast hip-hop movement. He has developed from a rising mixtape DJ, to one of the most influential and consistent DJ’s out on the West Coast. He has also worked with several of up-and-coming and veteran MCs from the West including; Crooked I, The Game, Juice, Ya Boy, Bishop Lamont, Roccett, Kurupt, Taje, Jay Rock and many more on his prior releases. September 7th continues to grind and produce authentic product which adds to the Cali Untouchable catalogue.
“To put it point blank, Arizona’s definitely got something to say. The large collective of artists coming from this state is amazing and inspiring as a DJ/producer/fan and I’m proud to be a part of this project,” states September 7th of the release. Welcome to the Zone Vol. 2 taps into the large pool of various west coast talent, and it displays what Arizona has to offer right now and into the next decade. These artists are the epitome of progress, hunger, struggle, hustle and the element of surprise!”
The Zone Entertainment continues to brand and prove itself as one of AZ’s most dominant promotion/ management/entertainment companies with this release. “Phoenix has been slept on for a longtime now in the music industry,” says Omar Marquez president of The Zone Entertainment. “We have a lot of gifted artists and producers out here, so I linked up with the Zone’s (AZ) finest, reached out to September 7th, and we all made it happen.”

Its a new year so I decided that I would start out this year by telling yall
“Happy New Years” from the sol camp
but also Im here to let you know my top ten arizona mcees for 2008. I have done about 100 shows last year so I feel I have a good understanding of who is doing the most out here. So to bring in the new year, here is my top ten lists of mcees coming out of the Phoenix Arizona hip hop scene. I do think that I am one of the best mcee out here and will have dope projects to prove it but im not here to talk about me or the rest of camp so you wont see us on this list. Im gonna put them in order that I choose. I will put positives and negatives of each artists also. This list is determined by who I think is the best in 08 not anyone else. Its the love/hate edition so dont get all mad! Just know if your on the list I have alot of respect for your hustle.

10. Trap
pos- this guy is new to the game out here in arizona to me at least. He has a great voice for rapping and makes quality hooks. His internet game is pretty good. He has alot of big songs like that “380 remix” and “quick money” and “rockin it” which was street heat of the week. He has some songs on the local radio and has quite a few songs on internet radio. To me he has the most anticipated local release of 2009
neg- I dont see any promo in the streets. I rarley see him on shows and have never seen him on any big shows. He has no product out in the streets. He has no videos, articles, etc.
9. silver medallion
pos- They have a sound no one in arizona has. They have rocked alot of shows and have great artwork for theyre flyers etc. I think they have the most creative stage show out of all arizona artists that I have seen live this year. They have had a decent amount of local publicity. They put out a good mixtape and it got some radio play also. I heard the single for the debut album and it was a really commercially viable songs. I heard hot rod is trying to get them signed. To me they are the most marketable group to ever rep scottsdale. They also dropped a cool video this year. They have good internet promotion.
neg- they are borderline cheesy with there dance moves, songs and image. They are almost not hip hop even though they do rap. I dont see any promos, cds and other various promo materials out in the stores. They rep scottsdale lol.
8. grime
pos-he probably has the best stage show as a solo artist. He had a great song this year called “guns” it was a banger. He puts out alot of product out in the streets. He has done alot of big underground shows like wu tang, dead prez, immortal technique, etc. He has a message when he raps and it seems he does the music for a reason not for money. He has a very highly anticipated release coming out and hopefully it drops in 2009.
neg-the man has taken years to put out his second album. In hip hop they forget about you quick so do that soon. He sounds alot like immortal technique in my opinion. I see him on alot of shows but thats it. No songs on mixtapes, no guest features, dont think he toured outta state much either.
7. cut throat logic
pos- Who packs shows like cut throat logic? They got a dope live show. They get alot of local publicity. They have one of the best local videos with that “A’z UP” song. They were voted best hip hop group several times by new times. They have a decent internet pressence but are bigger in the streets to me. They brought krs one out here on several occasions this year and have a song and video with krs also. They hustle hard independently. They are part of the new rawkus 50 also.
neg- when was the last time they released any albums? If you did I want a copy! They rarley put out any music either. They hardly tour outta state but do alot of shows here. They can step up there internet promo game. I dont even know if rawkus is gonna put out that new batch of rawkus 50 aritsts that keeps getting pushed back also.
6. cinque
pos- This dude had most videos in 2008 and all of them were pretty dope!. His album was a really quality piece of work song wise and music quality wise also. He has some of the hottest verses this year. He is the head of the biggest crew out here Man up squad. He was on the cover of ozone magazine. He also had a song or two on the radio in arizona. Word on the streets is he had several labels interested in signing him. He has all qualities of a super star to me with the image, personality, music, etc.
neg- I rarley see him on any shows out here. He had a dope album but I dont beleive he pushed that many. I didnt see any in the stores at all when an album that good should definetly be in the stores. He sounds alot like 50 cent.
5. Mc Magic/ Zig Zag
pro-They stay on tour throughout the southwest at most of the major lowrider car shows. Zig Zag dropped his solo project and it did well throughout the year and even had a single “hood love” that had rotation in on pocos pero locos and many stations. Zig zag, Mc Magic and New ridaz toured alot this past year getting that show money. Zig Zag started 5th coast la familia records and has helped many arizona aritsts go on tour and get more promotion. Magic city part 2 dropped and it was in more stores than any other artist from Arizona. He had a song with too short that hit the radio. He still has all his older songs in rotation on radio all over the US. His myspace promotion game is the best in Arizona they even mentioned that in the New times website as the #1 rapper in arizona on myspace. His internet game is crazy and he grosses more off sales of his past products than anyone on this list.
neg- Zig Zags new group did ok but not fare as well as the momentum they gained with NB Ridaz. Mc Magic did not have any major hit singles on his last album. It seems as if topic wise he does the same thing on ever song but is not keeping up with the times. To me if he had his group back he would be able to keep making hits. I believe he has hit the top and cant get any bigger than he has been in the past.
4. hot rod
pos-As he says hes international with passports to prove it. Not many arizona artists can say that right now. He has been on lots and lots of mixtapes more than anyone in AZ. He is still signed to g unit with 50 who is probably the biggest rapper in the game right now. He had a few underground videos to push himself which is a great idea and has a very solid internet following. He had a song with mary j blige, 50 cent, all of gunit, and many more. He also did all sorts of stuff on mtv, bet, etc.
neg- whats up with all my az alumni getting there major debuts pushed back and hot rod was no exception. I dont even think there is a date anymore at all. He said his song “i like to F#$$” was gonna be in full rotation on the radio and I never heard it once. He sounds too much like 50 but the softer version. To me it seems like the average person will listen but probably wont purchase the album. The man wants to claim arizona but never does shows out here either. I also noticed that the whole year many major websites posted how they dont like his music. He needs to drop a street album!
3. juice
pos- that song with bun b was big. I saw him perform with bun b at amarie stodamires b day party. He was on lots of mixtapes and with his new single dropped at the end of the year hes starting to get radio play. He has a great internet following also. Hes part of black wall street and thats a big connect and it got him on alot of shows outta country. I heard him on a few big collab tracks with other upcoming west coast artists also. His name is mentioned on most west coast hip hop websites as best on games roster.
neg-That man gets pushed back alot and from what I know game has never put out any artists besides himself. Game dissed him on rap city when he didnt let juice rap at all in the booth. He sounds exactly like game on alot of songs. He states he runs AZ but I rarley see him. I havent seen any videos and he rarley does shows in arizona.
2. roca dolla
pos-the man put out the best local cd in 2008 hands down. Roca dolla “roca is a classic” put alot of arizona mcees out there. He makes money off this music from various ways which I really admire. His videos are the illest out here with help from his peoples like todd a, daniel z, and more. He had many hits on his latest project. His sound quality on his music is the best in arizona. He is the head of the biggest label in arizona 5th coast records. He shows love to so many rappers out here its rediculus. He was on alot of shows here and outta town when the album was released. The man has a good internet advertising game also.
neg-I dont know if the man has many negatives. His internet presence could be alot better. He needs to tour nationwide with his album if he wants to get the recognition he deserves. He could push his project more if he has his songs featured on various mixtapes even though he did pretty good with that this year.
1. willy northpole
pos-The man is everywhere articles, mixtapes, tours, radio, videos, features, singles, etc. I like the fact that he has that street mentality in his music and also had the biggest song in az this year “body marked up”. He has been getting a big buzz as of lately with mixtapes with big djs hosting like don cannon etc. He did the most out of any az rapper in 08 hands down. His internet game is great. He won patiently waiting award for ozone magazine too. Of course his biggest assets are manager and the fact that he is signed to dtp def jam. willy ran arizona in 08
neg- the man has passed out flyers on numerous times that have different album release dates. I know its not his fault but he is getting pushed back alot. Some of the videos he did were wack songs. He sounds industry ready but at times the content really nothing new at all and he sounds forced on his party tracks.
Mav
Thats right yall we gonna hit the grindstone hard in 09 with many upcoming projects I want to let you know about. First of all the Mav “still micadvancin” mixtape is doing great and it will be promoted through out the new year. I will list the products but not in any order since we are planning that out still.
In 2009 we plan to release the Mav and B staks mixtape mixed by dj villin and hosted by ???. Im gonna leave that as a surprise but it will be a big name dj. That mixtape is gonna be nuts!.
Then Mav is going release his second album still untitled. You have heard “Muevelo” which is a single off the album. If you enjoyed “micadvancement” youll be a huge fan of this project. The majority of the album is produced by diaz millenia with featured production from Deuce wilde, Aktion beats, and a few others.
B Staks will also be releasing his debut album “Call me jefe”. This cd is also going to be amazing. He is about half way done and already has features from Clicka one, Zig Zag of nb ridaz, Rob g, and others. This will feature the single that made alot of noise in 2008 “jefe” which featured marques elliot.
Chino D will be dropping his mixtape “taking it back to union square”. This is a definite collectors item for you real hip hop heads. We wont tell you too much about this project trying to keep the cat in the bag feel me lol. Dj Darell d will be mixing this bad boy also.
This is what you have all been waiting for the Sol camp debut album. The sol camp debut album will drop in 2009 and its already done being recorded just getting it mixed right now. This is gonna be a project that will show that sol camp is the best latino hip hop group coming outta estados unidos today!!! “Es oh el” is the name of the project. The single off of this album is “shes a g” produced by lifted. This album will do alot of things for the arizona community that is needed. If you buy this album your life will be better lol jp but its gonna be dope.
you never know what else es oh el musik has planned so stay tuned to www.thesolcamp.com
